When planning a wedding, one of the things that often gets overlooked is finding a beautiful getting ready location. It may not be as important as the venue or the dress, but it’s still a huge part of your special day. You want to have gorgeous photos when you’re putting on your makeup and your dress, not just when you’re walking down the aisle or chasing the sunset.
Natural light is the most important thing when it comes to a wedding getting ready location. You want to find a place with lots of windows that allow sunlight to pour into the room. No one wants uneven light, different color tones, and shadows on their face. Big windows and light from the sun will give your skin, hair, and dress a softer and more natural appearance.
White or light-colored walls, soft or translucent window curtains, and neutral colors will reflect natural light. This creates a setting that will compliment everyone’s appearance and set you up for gorgeous getting ready photos.
It’s important to find a getting ready location that feels like you! For example, find a space that has funky artwork, antique furniture, or lots of plants. You want to be in a space that reflects your personality and taste!
Ideally, you can find a place with a couple different bathrooms and a separate area, like a kitchen, for you to keep snacks and drinks. You want your getting ready space to have as little clutter as possible.
When looking at various getting ready locations, think about an open space with natural light to take photos of you putting on your dress, shoes, and jewelry. Sometimes this means moving around a little furniture, but it’s nice when the bridal party doesn’t have to clean up an entire room before having enough uncluttered space for photos.
Unless you’re willing to spend quite a bit of money on a hotel suite, it can be difficult to find a hotel room worthy of gorgeous getting ready photos for your wedding day. Hotels are often small, cramped, and don’t have a lot of natural light.
I recommend looking on Airbnb or VRBO for a home that you and your bridal party can spread out in and enjoy!
